Enter my Star Citizen screenshot contest for your chance at some great digital prizes!

   UPDATE: 2020-10-05

THE CONTEST IS OVER… and here are the results

We received so many great Star Citizen screenshots for this month’s theme of “Speed”. Check out the top three prize winners and the honorable mention below along with some comments from the judges. You can also see ALL the entries further down the page. I’ll be running another Star Citizen screenshot soon… so check my site or follow me on Twitter for updates!

FIRST

“G-forces!”  by u7f76

This shot reminds me of the space mountain at Disney land Paris. The sense of speed, and not knowing what awaits you at the end of the ride. The use of object motion blur and the fact that the focus goes all the way to the person’s face, makes it a great shot.Captain Raoul
Some will say this picture is a depiction of G-forces at work, which is incorrect. This is clearly a man flying his ship as fast as possible home while fighting off a fierce bout of trouser chili. And while he appears to be losing this battle, his mettle is clearly obvious in this well done shot.Captain Richard
As far as showing SPEED as it relates to a vehicle, this shot was the most original because it directly represented the effects on the pilot. The use of FOIP to get the stress in the face was key and perfectly done.Hasgaha

SECOND

“Aegis Sabre”  by MAXPER

The colors and details on the ship make it a great shot. Every time I look at this shot, it’s as if I’m looking at a moving picture.Captain Raoul
This shot of the Sabre is sublime and quite crisp, although I would have liked to have seen the left wingtip not cut off. Also, the blurry background reminds me of my vision after going on my third bender in a week.Captain Richard
The use of directional blur (ReShade), the colors, the off-vertical angle, and the crop are all incredibly well done and create a very dynamic shot.Hasgaha

THIRD

“Boost Engaged”  by MrIbra

I love the kicked up dust particles and boost flames. The only thing I miss is the use of object motion blur on the wheels. It looks like I’m looking at a picture from a cool fan trailer.Captain Raoul
I will freely admit I’m a bit biased as I love sportscars and off-roading and the sight of vehicular afterburners firing hot enough to cook space hotdogs really tickles my pickle. A real bombastic barbecue of beauty. Great, now I’m hungry.Captain Richard
A well timed shot. The slight angle of the Cyclone, the compressed suspension on the left side, and the boost flare all scream SPEED. I’d like to see some blur on the wheels (in-game motion blur) and a bit more dust/debris being kicked up.Hasgaha

HONORABLE MENTION

“Absconder”  by StickJock

It can almost be called photorealistic. The reflecting sunlight on the hull of the Herald, the beautiful shadow details on the rocks, the feeling of speed, makes it a beautiful screenshot.Captain Raoul
The Herald is one part cockpit and two parts NYOOOOOOOM. This ship is the definition of “hurry up and go!” and this pic captures it well. I’m sure this sneaky boi is ferrying information to the highest bidder as we speak.Captain Richard
The crispness and detail of the Herald against the blurring rocks of Daymar really give the viewer the sence of speed. Playing with the position of the light and shadows of the ship and background might help the Herald stand out more from it’s background.Hasgaha

CONGRATULATIONS to the winners!! I’ll be contacting them shortly. And thanks to all who participated as well as my fellow judges on this contest; Captain Raoul and Captain Richard.

  • Your entry may be disqualified if it is deemed to not follow these rules.

THE PROCESS:

On the CONTEST ENDS date listed above, submissions will stop and our esteemed judges will start the process of meticulously looking through ALL the entries. Entries will be judged on the following:

  • Interpretation & execution of the THEME:
How well does your screenshot capture and/or convey the theme of the contest.
  • Composition:
The arrangement of the elements within the photo should be pleasing to the eye. How well did you use the available space within the frame? Does the placement of the elements and position of the camera suit the idea or theme of the image?
  • Creativity:
Does your image convey the idea or theme in an original and imaginative way? Does the image hint at a deeper story or was it captured in an unconventional way?

Judging will be done privately and on an individual basis by the selected judges. This is NOT done in committee or with discussion among other judges. Judge votes are theirs alone and theirs to be given as they see fit. All votes from the judges will remain anonymous and will never be disclosed to the public. While voting, judges will only see the images and image titles. They will not see usernames attached to entries nor how many votes from other judges an entry might have.

Judging, unless otherwise specified, will occur in multiple rounds. Entries with the lowest votes will be removed and NOT proceed to subsequent rounds. The number of rounds could vary for each contest based on how many entries are received.

Things to consider that won’t hurt your chances, but are NOT required:

  • As high a resolution image as you can take. 1920 x 1080 is the bare minimum… go higher if you can.
  • The highest image quality (as little compression) as possible. Remember, while JPGs are easy, they are a LOSSY compressed format and are a degraded form of what you saw in game. Lossless PNG is recommended.
  • Submitting older screenshots from previous versions of the game IS allowed if they match the theme and meet the requirements. However, the game’s graphics, textures, lighting, shadows, etc are constantly being improved and older screenshots might have a hard time competing with current screenshots.
